Gillespie Eye Care welcomes Dr. Galen Schmidt to the Grand Coulee team

August 21, 2015

As the primary optometric physician in the Grand Coulee office, Dr. Galen Schmidt brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Gillespie Eye Care team. Originally from Cozad, Nebraska, he enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he attended the university of Nebraska and then went on to receive his doctor of optometry degree from Indiana University.

Dr. Schmidt is actively licensed in the state of Washington for diagnostics, therapeutics, orals and epinephrine injections; he also holds licenses in Idaho and Nebraska. He served three externships: Rantoul Air Force Base, Indianapolis Low Vision Center, and the Carle Clinic in Champaign Illinois.

He fell in love with the Pacific Northwest and opened the Whitman Family Vision Center in Colfax, where he raised his family. Dr. Schmidt sold his practice in 2000 and continued to work with other doctors in Puyallup, finally returning to Spokane. Dr. Schmidt is well versed in the treatment and management of eye diseases including glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, dry eyes, and diabetic retinopathy.

After 30 years of private practice experience, Dr. Schmidt and his wife Pam, originally form Omak, look forward to becoming a part of the Grand Coulee office and the enhanced quality of life and community pride it offers.
